Online grocery sales of Magnit surge 73%
The retail chain Magnit has published the operating results of its e‑commerce service “Magnit Delivery” for the second quarter of 2026. Between April and June, the number of fulfilled orders exceeded 35 million, demonstrating a confident 73% increase compared with the same period last year. At the same time, the number of grocery purchases placed by users through the retailer’s own mobile application doubled.
Infrastructure development and financial performance
By the end of the first half of 2026, the gross merchandise value (GMV) of the digital service also showed synchronized growth of 73%. An important milestone for the e‑commerce division was the transition to stable profitability: the business recorded a positive EBITDA.
High operating efficiency and the speed of assembling grocery orders are supported by active expansion of the network of specialized warehouses (dark stores). Thanks to this strategy, the company has achieved the following results:
- An increase in the unique online grocery assortment to 22,200 stock keeping units (SKUs).
- Maintaining the average express‑delivery time to the customer’s door at 32 minutes.
In addition, the company’s IT division has significantly improved the performance of its personalized discount algorithms. The updated system now forms individual price offers for products much more accurately by deeply analyzing customer purchasing behavior both in physical supermarkets and in the online basket.
The transition of the grocery delivery service to consistently positive EBITDA is a landmark event for the entire Russian e‑grocery market. For a long time, express delivery of perishable goods was considered a structurally loss‑making business that required constant multibillion‑ruble investments from the core operations of national chains. Magnit’s operational success proves that the competent combination of proprietary dark stores, precise predictive algorithms, and omnichannel analysis of customer behavior can turn online grocery sales into a profitable and self‑sustaining business model.
