Rail Freight Volume Between Kazakhstan and China Grew by 10% in the First Five Months of 2026
According to the national company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (Kazakhstan Railways), the volume of rail freight transportation between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the People's Republic of China reached 15.5 million tons from January to May 2026. This figure exceeds the results of the same period in 2025 by 1.4 million tons, representing a 10% growth.
The positive dynamics are driven by the stable operation of border crossings. Notably, in May 2026 alone, 1.29 million tons of various cargo were transported through the Dostyk-Alashankou interstate interchange point.
The steady growth in rail freight volumes between Kazakhstan and China confirms the successful adaptation of logistics routes and the expansion of border infrastructure capacity. A 10% increase in cargo traffic indicates a growing demand for transit and bilateral shipments, including in the FMCG segment. For market participants, this signals improved reliability of the railway channel, which allows for optimized delivery times and efficient supply chain planning amid the broader reorientation of global trade flows to the East.
